24 Hours to Live — What would you do?

I am just finished reading The Untethered Soul, by Michael a Singer. It is the type of book that forces me to view life from a new perspective, which is exactly why it is so powerful. I’d like to start this post by sharing a passage with you.

From Chapter 17, Contemplating Death:

“Take a moment to look at the things you think you need. Look at how much time and energy you put into various activities. Imagine if you knew you were going to die within a week or a month. How would that change things? How would your priorities change? How would your thoughts change? Think honestly about what you would do with your last week. What a wonderful thought to contemplate. Then ponder this question: if that’s really what you would do with your last week, what are you doing with the rest of your time? Wasting it? Throwing it away? Treating it like it’s not something precious? What are you doing with life? That is what death asks you.”

I think this is an excellent question to ponder. If this was your last week, how would you want to spend it? At first you might think about sex, or other personal desires. If this is all you can think of, I would argue that you haven’t fully contemplated the meaning of death. Once you are gone, it wont matter what personal desires you fulfilled in life, because you wont be here to remember them.
